Dedication of the Chapel of Christ's Stillness by Rev'd Joy Collins on 6th May 2022
We believe the original Chapel was built on ley lines for the local farm workers as a Chapel of Ease, Rest or meditation in the benefice of Guestling, approximately 200 years ago.
We understand that when the Chapel was no longer in use, the end wall was removed and it was subsequently used as a tractor shed and then for housing cattle. Some of the original features remained, i.e. the muslin draped ceiling, electric light fittings and the high windows.
The decision was made in 2019 to replace the now derelict building with a modern timber Chapel on the same footprint, incorporating the original brick walls and adding modern features in keeping with the ambience of its spiritual past. It is set in its own grounds of peace and tranquility within an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Please see 'The Chapel's creation' page for stages of development.
The Chapel of Christ’s Stillness is set in 3 acres of peaceful grounds.
We have facilities to accommodate self-catering guests.
